What is the Standard Assessment Pathway?

The Standard Assessment Pathway is the most common assessment pathway for overseas qualified physiotherapists wanting to be registered and work as a physiotherapist in Australia. The assessments within the pathway will determine whether you are able to practice at the standard set in the Physiotherapy Practice Thresholds in Australia.

Assesses knowledge, skills, and clinical competency
Valid for 5 years after completion

APEP Transition Complete

The Standard Assessment Pathway transitioned to the Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway (APEP) in October 2025. The Clinical Assessment now consists of two parts: an online Capability Assessment and an in-person Clinical Workshop.

APEP is now active (transitioned October 2025)
Capability Assessment: online oral exam via video call (from your home country)
Clinical Workshop: in-person at APC Simulation Lab, Melbourne
Total pathway cost: $7,814 AUD (from 5 Jan 2026, 3% CPI increase)
