Yes, all international physiotherapists must pass both the written and clinical examinations unless eligible for the Substantial Equivalence pathway (for very experienced PTs).
You cannot practice as a physiotherapist without AHPRA registration. However, you may work as a therapy assistant or in non-clinical roles.
AHPRA accepts IELTS Academic (7.0 overall, 7.0 each band), OET (B in all components), PTE Academic (65 overall, 65 each), or TOEFL iBT (94 overall with minimums).
The complete registration process typically takes 12-18 months from initial application to final registration, depending on exam dates and preparation time.
